“Hand-wringing about merits and dangers of social media is as productive as debating gravity.” - Lee Aase, Director, Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media
For those that are still waiting to see where the social media game is going, pay attention to the Mayo Clinic. Under the direction of Lee Aase, Mayo has been a leader in using blogging, Facebook, and viral video to promote their services, all despite the normally stifling bureaucracy you can expect from a hospital. Not only that, but they have implemented it using the “MacGyver” approach; using what they already have, not investing in expensive video and audio equipment.
Lee has taken the lessons from his work and opened a free “University” with a full curriculum on implementing social media tools. His smart and funny approach is a relief from all of the dry technical manuals on these topics, and he works through beginner (Social Media 101: Intro to Social Media) to advanced (Social Media 302: Barack Obama’s Social Media Strategy).
Consider me SMUGled; this is a fantastic resource for anyone using social media. Visit the Social Media University, Global and the Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media.
